Introducing Chitchat.gg!

Chitchat.gg launched in 2023 to fix one specific complaint: every random-chat site left standing felt abandoned, bot-choked, or buried in ads. The idea was to build something actively maintained, instant text and video chat with strangers, simple by design, private by default, and updated on a real cadence instead of left to rot.

Our motivation behind Chitchat.gg

The random-chat category had a maintenance problem. Sites went years without updates, bots filled the matching pool faster than real people could, ads cluttered every screen, and layouts hadn't changed since whatever year they launched. We built Chitchat.gg as the modern alternative to that: a platform that ships changes on a real schedule and stays legible, without selling out the interface to fund itself.

Our approach to user-friendly features

Optional account creation. At launch, you could start chatting immediately with no signup at all; creating an account only mattered if you wanted your history and settings to follow you across devices.

A real friends system. Add people you talk to again, remove them, or block them outright. Friend requests can be turned off entirely in settings if you'd rather not get them.

Chat and match history. Your last eight conversations stay retrievable, so a good one doesn't just vanish the moment you close the tab.

No punishment for a dropped connection. If someone disconnects, the chat doesn't just end. You can wait for them to come back or move on to someone new without losing your place.

Continuity across devices. Switch tabs or devices mid-conversation without getting logged out or losing the thread.

Putting users first: our monetization

We hate ads. Chitchat.gg launched ad-free on principle, not as a placeholder until ads made sense later.

Why subscriptions, not ads. The platform is funded by optional subscriptions instead. Nobody has to pay to use the core product, and nothing gets inserted into your feed to make up the difference.

What premium unlocked at launch. A subscription bought gender filtering, extra history slots, and image and video sharing in chat: add-ons and controls, not access to a locked-down core experience.

We're constantly evolving

Early Chitchat.gg shipped with bugs and said so openly, pointing people to Discord or support email rather than pretending the product was finished. That's still roughly the posture: this is something in motion, not a museum piece.

Our future (as written in 2023)

At launch, the near-term plan was a stable release plus text-based chat, with video matching and native Android/iOS apps described as further out. That's the original roadmap, left as it was written.

Chitchat in 2026

A few things are worth updating rather than leaving implied:

• Video chat asks for a quick Google, Facebook, or Apple sign-in before you're connected, a real change from the fully anonymous launch experience. It was added specifically to cut down on bot accounts and repeat sign-ups after a ban. Text chat and browsing are still account-optional.
• Native mobile apps still aren't shipped. The web app works as an installable PWA in the meantime; if you were waiting on an App Store listing specifically, that's not out yet.
